Liberty Mortgage Company was founded by Karen Richmond in March 1983.
Her goal was to meet the mortgage financing needs of her local community that weren't being served. At the time, it was frowned upon for a female to have a business of her own especially one as complex as a mortgage business. It was also uncommon for a first time homebuyer to obtain financing through a mortgage company instead of a bank. Also few people in the area had a knowledge of the products that were available to them.
Liberty Mortgage was built in the environment of the 1980's. At that time, most home buyers were unaware that they could qualify for a loan with a small down payment.
As the number of customers grew, Liberty Mortgage became more and more well versed with the opportunities available. Over the past 29 years, Karen and her original team have piloted many HUD and VA initiatives, including the teacher and next door program, 203(k) rehabilitation program, HUD-Approved condo and manufactured housing programs, and Rural Development loan program.
Since the beginning, Liberty Mortgage, with Karen and her team of people, has stuck to the basic government insured products that have always worked. They are here to attract customers for life, they aren't here to make a quick buck. Numerous children and grandchildren of clients in the community they serve are referred to them and provided loans. FHA and VA loans have always been their primary mean of business. They never participated in the subprime fiasco and have stuck to their background in FHA and VA loans.
